The Syon Abbey Herbal AD 1517  Edited by John Adams and Stuart Forbes

A herbal is a compendium of plants and their uses in the kitchen and in medicine. The Syon Abbey Herbal of 1517 is believed to be the last monastic herbal produced in England. It was compiled by Stuart Betson, the Abbey librarian and intended for internal use in the Abbey with a bias towards remedies for conditions affecting women. It includes Betson's lists of over 700 plants and 400 remedies.
